Sorry if this is basic, but do bonds give monthly income like rent or FD interest, or do you only get money at maturity? Trying to understand how this works before investing.
depends on the bond, not all give monthly. i thought same thing initially and then realised mine was quarterly ![]()
Yeah it varies. Usually mentioned as coupon frequency. Could be monthly, quarterly, semi-annual etc.
yeah just check that one line before investing, otherwise you’ll be sitting and waiting thinking payout kab aayega
makes sense, i assumed it’ll be like FD where you can choose payout type
It doesn’t work like FDs. The payout schedule is fixed for each bond, you don’t get to choose it. Most corporate bonds are quarterly or semi-annual, monthly ones are there but less common.
i learnt this the hard way, waited one month and nothing came, then checked and it was quarterly ![]()
so if someone wants regular income they should specifically pick those bonds only right
Yes, that’s the right approach. Align the payout frequency with your requirement, because you won’t be able to change it after investing.
got it, this clears it up. i’ll check frequency before putting money
