Do I need a separate demat account for bonds or can I just use the same one I use for stocks? Slightly confused about this.
same one works, I didn’t do anything extra, just linked it and it was done
During onboarding they ask for DP ID and Client ID. Once that’s entered, it gets mapped. There isn’t a separate account creation step.
Okay, so nothing needs to be done on the broker side separately?
No. Your existing demat account is sufficient. Bonds are credited there just like equity shares.
yeah it’s basically just another holding in the same demat, nothing fancy
i genuinely thought there’ll be some separate bond account or something before signing up ![]()
One thing worth checking though is whether your demat account is fully active and able to receive securities from exchange transactions. Most accounts are fine, but in edge cases this can cause issues.
what kind of issues are we talking about?
Mostly inactive accounts or accounts with restrictions. Not common, but if settlement fails, that’s usually where the problem is.
ngl i didn’t check any of this, just linked and it worked for me ![]()
That’s true for most users.
got it, was overthinking this then
